Preparing for your EYFS Ofsted inspection

E-book "A Guide to your Ofsted EYFS inspection -  How to prepare your setting"

This E-book will help you get the grade that you deserve.

It explains what the inspector will be looking for. It tells you what you need

to show and tell your inspector. Which documents and records to have and more . . .

*

What inspectors look for when judging provision

The central question which inspectors seek to answer is: what is it like for a child here?

In doing so, they consider how well you deliver the EYFS; and how, as a result, children are helped to achieve

the five Every Child Matters outcomes

(being healthy; staying safe; enjoying and achieving; making a positive contribution; and achieving economic well-being)

In order to decide this, inspectors make four main judgements which are also linked to the general requirements of the EYFS

Grade 1

OUTSTANDING

Exceptional provision which is way above the norm

Grade 2

GOOD

Strong provision in which children are well cared for

Grade 3

SATISFACTORY

The standard of care is acceptable. Could be better

Grade 4

INADEQUATE

The standard of care is not good enough. Provision is weak

Your Ofsted inspector will evaluate:

how effective is the provision in meeting the needs of the children?

how effectively are children helped to learn and develop?

how effectively is the welfare of the children promoted?

how effectively is the provision organised?

*

Risk Assessment Forms For A Childminder's House, Garden, Car and Resources

Childminders must conduct a risk assessment which is part of the Welfare Requirements as stated in the EYFS Statutory Framework

Welfare Requirements:

Suitable premises, equipment and environment. Outdoor and indoor spaces, and furniture, equipment and toys, must be safe and suitable for their purpose. Childminders must take reasonable steps to ensure that hazards to children both indoors and outdoors are minimised. The risk assessment should cover anything which a child may come into contact with.

*

                                          "All about me" book

All About Me book is one way in which to gather knowledge of a child in your setting. All About Me book can be completed when first getting to know a child and at other times to inform you about which areas you may wish to observe and develop in more detail. All About Me book can be developed one stage further - as a tool when planning high quality experiences for the child.

Charts for recording children's progress development.

Detailed charts of what a baby / child should be doing at different ages. Please remember that these charts are just guidelines, but you can use them as a tool for observing a child. And obviously based on your observations you can then plan activities to promote a specific area of a baby / child's development. These charts are very useful when working in partnership with your parents, to compare notes in order to promote their children's progress and learning

*

1 set of developmental milestones charts for babies to 3 years old

1 set for 3 to 5 years old

Childminders  Daily  Diary

Ofsted recommend that you use a Daily Diary to record the daily activities of each child. A daily diary acts as a tool for communication between the childminder and the parent. With a page for each day, details are easy to complete. It covers daily activities, milestones achievement, meals, sleep, toileting, notes, reminders, parent's comment etc…

*

You will receive

1 template in Colour, 1 template in Black & White and 1 Front Cover template for your diary.

These templates will allow you to print an endless supply of Daily Diary.

Helping your child get ready for school with activities for children

from birth through to age 5

What does it mean to be ready for school? There is no one quality or skill that children need to do well in school, but a combination of things contributes to success. However busy you may be, there are lots of things you can do to help your children get ready for school. Little things that make a big difference.

Helping your child learn to read.   Why?

This is the question we parents are always trying to answer. It's good that children ask questions: that's the best way to learn. All children have two wonderful resources for learning: imagination and curiosity. As a parent, you can awaken your children to the joy of learning by encouraging their imagination and curiosity.
